OTB: like I said; machine. (OMR interview, part duex)

Mike: We’ve all got great chemistry though and it works really well. Jeff does the smart lyrics; I do the dumber, knuckle dragging ones. HAHA! We all give input on everything though.

OTB:  We need both! The lyrics on your debut EP look like they are written by a band that has bit of interest in history and themes that seem to repeat themselves throughout history.  I've read a bit about some of those mentioned in "Spear of Destiny" after finding them among my ancestors while researching my own family history.  How did you become interested in this facet of history?

Jeff: Mike wrote Nation of Hate, which is brilliant, and I wrote the other two. I'm a bit of a history nerd, so writing about that stuff is fun to me. Those lyrics are a lot shorter now as we had to crunch to fit the structure of the song. I also have an interest in spirituality and thoughts associated with that, which is where We Are Legion was born.

OTB:  Any plans for future releases?

Mike:  We’re split up all over the country so it makes it tough to sync up schedules sometimes. We’re gonna be at this for a long time to come though.

Lars: We are gonna try and record a ton when we can.  We wanna put out a lot of music.  Make no mistake, this is not a side project- It’s a real band!

Dave: We plan on many future releases, in fact recording again in July!!

OTB:  Good to hear!  What's on the radar for live appearances or touring in OMR’s future?  Where would you most like to play?

Dave:  We do plan on playing shows, but not for a while.

Lars Once we get enough songs to do a live set, we will play some shows.  So, to answer the question- we have nothing booked as of now.  We will let people know when it happens.  You can count on it.

Dave:  There has been talk about going to Europe someday and hitting different spots in the states.  It's hard to tell how it will pan out.  We all have families and full time jobs that make things a little difficult, but not impossible.Mike: Mike: ...we’re gonna play everywhere that will have us. Touring might be tough, but one off shows are definitely going to be a go!

OTB: Everyone here started playing punk and Oi! music in their teens or early 20s. You've gathered more life experience since the time you started your first band than you had prior. Surely, something has been learned since then. Based on that, what sort of advice would you give teenage you, or a kid coming up?

Lars:  Pay no mind to critics.  Do what you wanna do, follow you’re heart and most importantly: Fuck em all!

Dave: I would say to teenage kids, always do your best, no matter what it is.  Live positively and positive things will happen.  Stay outta the mess that got all of us in trouble when we were young.  We were lucky to make it out alive with some of our experiences, kids these days may not be so lucky. Make sure to take care of your family and friends and enjoy the ride!!

Thanks OXLEY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS,  Max, Diana and I are excited to be part of your debut release and looking forward to next weeks preorder of your EP here at Oi! the Boat and at Randale Records!  Talk to you soon!

Oi! the Boat and Randale Records are proud to offer this highly anticipated debut release from OXLEY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS   Featuring Mike from the Fatskins, Dave and Jeff from 90 Proof, and Lars from the Old Firm Casuals/Rancid- this 7" offers three tracks of brilliantly understated American Oi! that will command center stage on your turntable's rotation.

The songs are as poignant as they are catchy, "Nation of Hate" laments the socio-economic apathy turned tacit cruelty in modern society. "Spear of Destiny" is centered on the mythical 'holy lance.' The focus is not only the lore affixed to holy relics, but the atrocities that humanity have been compelled to carry out under the veil of their significance. The record closes on the AA side with the title track, "We Are Legion," a song with chilling guitars and a big beat that demands the the listener to look into the darker parts of humanity and themselves. The title track draws deep on the stark disparities of the human condition and will leave everyone who hears it screaming, "WE ARE LEGION!"

Updates from OTB HQ:

There's been a lot going on here at Oi! the Boat lately.  As summer wears on, we've just released the debut EP "Chicago Brick Crew" by BRICK ASSASSIN

getcha some

We've had them down to the OTBHQ for a show and have been able to catch them live a couple times- I recommend trying to catch them live and grabbing a copy of the EP from us.  You won't be disappointed.

Last month, we helped sponsor the "Fuck You- We Rule, OK?" fest in Tulsa Oklahoma.  We now need a sponsor.  3 days with bands like VICTORY, BRASSKNUCKLE BOYS, ASSAULT&BATTERY, THE SHAME, BAD ENGRISH, SNIPER 66, DOG CO., CONCRETE, and BLACK ACTRESS to name a few, made for a wholesome weekend for all, as evidenced in this still snapped that weekend, featuring OTBHQ Co-Captain Max with some pals from CONCRETE and VICTORY.  Glad we made it out!

So whats next at Oi! the Boat? Well we don't want to spill too many beans, but you should be seeing the debut EP from Miami's DIE TRYING released on Oi! the Boat in the coming weeks. You can be sure that you'll see more from VICTORY in the near future and the 3rd installment of our VOi!CE of America 7" series is about ready to head to the pressing plant. I'll spill the beans on what bands make an appearance- Of course, VICTORY was a shoe in, and they're right there with a new hard-hitting midwest oi anthem that will surely inspire some sort of printed shirt or spawn some new festival bearing the title of their song. Milwaukee's ASSAULT & BATTERY impressed us when we saw them back in December at a bar in their hometown... and again in April at the BEER CITY BENDER and their demo made its way into my daily playlist. They are in. While we are hanging here in the midwest with St. Paul's VICTORY and Milwaukee's ASSAULT & BATTERY, why not pop over to beautiful DETROIT and add the BAD ASSETS to the mix!

this fall

You'll notice that we are moving toward the east with each band on this EP- but don't be fooled! We quickly do an about face and head back west- THE BRASS TACKS are BACK with a brand new track- and holy shit it is GREAT! There's just too much going on in the midwest! Not only do we have these 4 incredible Oi!/streetpunk bands, but we had a large handful of midwest bands that also could have made a solid contribution to represent our corner of the country. Here's a sneak peek at VOA3's cover on the left...This should be out in the fall and then it's on to vol.4 to complete the map!

Don't get too excited- still have a couple months to wait on getting it pressed! It is really not a bad time to call "fly over country" home, to say the least. This year's FYWROK and BEER CITY BENDER and all the band's and other punks and skins in attendance made it clear that all is alive and well here.  The lack of posing and bickering leaves a lot of space to have a laugh and a say.   Speaking of that, VICTORY are taking the midwest unrest to the road. They'll be stopping through to play a show in the place we call home (Foam City / Oi the Boat HQ in Lafayette, Indiana) in 1 week. ASSAULT & BATTERY will be along for the ride and THE GESTALTS will be playing and slinging copies of their new Randale Records release (Bloodshot Eyes EP). When I say "they", I mean "we". If you didn't know, THE GESTALTS are a punk band in which all the instruments with strings are played by the entire "staff" of Oi! the Boat Records.  Naturally, we have some of the records for sale here at Oi! the Boat.  NOI!SE crooner-bassist MATT HENSON's presence graces the second verse of the GESTALTS sing-a-long "Made to Pay", as you can hear, HERE .
Well that is it for this installment of the update from OTB HQ.  Make sure to catch VICTORY when they roll through your town on their upcoming tour.  Did I mention we just added a new band to the fold over the weekend?  So fucking good.  We can't wait to tell you more.
